Battleship Potemkin is a celluloid masterpiece.
The film was rejected for a UK cinema certificate in 1926 by the BBFC following fears of working class insurrection, and remained banned until January 1954 when it was finally released with an X certificate.
The direction of Eisenstein is truly a sight. The film chronicles a ship of disgruntled sailors who are tired of being mistreated by their superior officers. Eventually, the sailors finally have enough of the abuse and send the officers packing.
